Grief really does come in waves. I stumbled across something that reminded me of Kyle, and whenever I think of him, I always think of my Grandma too. I’ve even said out loud before (many times) that I hope they’ve met up there, wherever they are, and that Bonnie is running around them. Autumn and winter have always been my favourite seasons, but they also hold some of my hardest memories. I love the magic of this time of year, yet sometimes feel guilty for enjoying it when so much heartbreak has happened here too. With their anniversaries all coming up, my grief has felt heavier. Each one never gets easier, but knowing this first for Kyle feels especially heavy on my heart. Last December I started reading a book that I remember a quote that said something along the lines of “two things can co exist at once”. You can love life and still ache for the people who are not here. We do not move on from grief, we grow around it. Everyday I still look for the little signs, the robins, the feathers, and it is so comforting when they show up. Running has become my space to think of them, breathe, and feel connected. Just a reminder that you only see 1 percent of someone’s day online. In a world that can be so cruel, please please be gentle with yourself and others. You are not alone.
